THE HOTTEST G7 EVER!

Article by Sprovieri Enrico

Introduction

Every year, in the early summer period, we are used to listen to a term (even several times during a week) that refers to a special event, and I am sure that each of you has questioned at least once what this term was used for.

What “G7” stands for?

With the term “G7” (Group of 7) we refer to one of the most influential global meetings of the year. This meeting is composed of the 7 most economically advanced countries, whose economy and political decisions can influence the social, industrial and military global policies. Currently this group is made up of Italy, Germany, France, Canada, US, UK and Japan.

A Glimpse of History

Born in 1975, it was originally founded to contrast the impetuous collapse of the exchange rate of the 1971 during the Nixon shock, the energetic crisis and the economic recession. The main goal was facilitating the harmonization of the macroeconomics policies to supervise the trends of the economic development all around the globe. It is also important to highlight that Russia was part of this group too (named G8), until the events that have involved the Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and the state of Crimea in 2014.

The Agenda and the Italian role

For the seventh time Italy is going to host this marvellous event, and after Friuli, Campania, Liguria and Sicily, now it is time for the amazing Puglia landscapes! Under the presidency of the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the main topics will be:

  • Ukraine-Russia conflict, analysing different ways to approach it through the Defence International System;
  • Connection and care of the relationships with the developing and emerging countries;
  • Ways to manage the developing strategies of AI, which is also involved in the forecast mechanisms;
  • How to handle problems linked to the climatic change.

Moreover, it is curious to observe how Puglia is going to manage the hosting of such event, which will impact airports and other infrastructures, possibly causing limitations to citizens.

Conclusion

Being part of the G7 is always an amazing opportunity for Italy, that allows to actively participate in the discussions concerning global trends. We must also consider – and be proud of – the fact that is relatively unusual that a 60 million people country is considered one of the 7 most forceful countries in the whole world!
